WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Live album from different venues showcase Buddy Guy playing and love for the blues.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Studio blues albums are nice, but where the blues live is on stage. Good live recordings can be more vital than pristine studio takes.

This is a great live recording that showcases Buddy’s guitar playing, vocals and crowd interaction. The eight songs cover blues, soul and pop standards done in a blues motif. Guy is exuberant, interacting with the crowds and firing them up.

Guy’s backing bands are solid (there are at least two dates represented here) and work well with the bluesman. The only check mark against this is that the sound quality is uneven – thanks to the different venues. However, this is a good live album to pick up to hear Guy’s solo live outings in the late 60’s

NOTES & MINUTIAE: This was the last solo Buddy Guy album until 1972. He released some collaborations with other bluesmen in between.

GRADE: A-: The sound quality due to the different venues is an issue. A straight through live show would have been better, but we’ll take what we can get!
