WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Donning their famous helmets, Daft Punk begins their dance world domination.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Beat, bass, rhythm, hook, rinse, repeat. Perfect for the dance floor, and for casual listening, Daft Punk’s second full length album is what caused their star to shine throughout the world.

By listening to his album, you can tell what they nicked from other songs, and what songs of theirs were nicked. An example “Harder Better Faster Stronger” was built on “Cola Bottle Baby” by Edwin Birdsong, and then Kanye West built an entire rap over the Daft Punk track.

The hooks are so hooky. The beat and bass are funky, and yet, over an hour, it loses steam except if you just have it on as background music. It’s a dance classic, but not perfect.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: They added a membership card in the CD with a number that provided access to their web site. Forward thinking for 2001.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No

GRADE: A-: It works more as single tracks than a whole album, but many of those those single tracks are stellar.
