WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Orchestral indie rock actually sounds rather generic, even with the strings.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a little something else. You have guitars that jangle, strings that add depth and color and a singer that either whines or growls in a lower register.

Actually, the songs aren’t too bad. Most of them are about lost love or people trying to find themselves. It all rather much sounds the same as other contemporary bands though – a different one on each song. But when Chen gets into his lower register it sounds more creepy than anything.

I can see why this sold some records. It’s decent enough, sounds familiar, and the strings do add a nice touch. But it’s nothing to get really worked up about.

NOTES & MINUTAE: Jollett, the main songwriter, was a free-lance author and fiction writer.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION:  No

GRADE: B. I like it – I don’t love it. Generic indie is generic, but better than many other generic genres.
