WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: :Lo-fi home recordings made mainly to give to friends, and it sounds like it.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: I missed the memo when everyone was supposed to be all gaga about lo-fi home recordings that are plodding and ponderous and not really meant for release, but accidentally get out onto the marketplace.
And I’m not anti lo-fi. It’s just…this kind of stuff isn’t my cuppa.
Grizzly Bear is a real band now, and I’m going to review more of the stuff. But I’m not hearing anything that wants me to listen to this particular record more, especially with the fidelity as it is. Pass.
NOTES & MINUTIAE: Droste wrote this for ‘catharsis’ and recorded most of it himself.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No
GRADE: C-: Ye Gods. I’m glad I slept through this hipster trend. EXILED post-haste
