TITLE: Sweetwater
YEAR RELEASED: 2004
CHART ACTION: None
SINGLES: None
OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: Maybe the George Jones or Loretta Lynn cover
LINEUP: Lynn Blakey, Caitlin Cary, Tonya Lamm.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Raleigh-area veterans of alt-country and alternative bands get together and sing sweet harmonies.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Caitlin Cary was Ryan Adams’ foil in Whiskeytown, and the only one to survive the group until its demise. She has a sweet voice and a sweet violin (fiddle?). Lynn Blakey was in Oh-OK and a later version of Let’s Active, while Tonya Lamm was in various Raleigh area bands.

They got together to sing and perform in the Raleigh area, and wrote some songs. Later they decided to record them, and Chris Stamey (former dB’s) heard it and convinced them to record a full album release it.

We’re lucky they did. Three sweet voices singing country and alt-country songs. It’s great for what ails you. Simple arrangements, great singing, good songs.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: They started singing together in an impromptu way, during an Alejandro Escovedo show in 1999.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No.

GRADE: A-: I love the way their voices intermingle.
